European Citizenship: The History of the EU and why it was created

Very often, large institutions like the EU seem to be very far off participants' daily life. The aim is to shift from this abstract perspective and provide participants with a more specific idea of the functionings of the EU. Therefore, the idea of this workshop is to provide participants with basic knowledge on the history and development as well as the functionings of the EU. Also, this method seeks to raise participants' awareness of the importance of the EU as peace-keeping institution. Further, the idea of a European Identity and European Citizenship shall be fostered and strengthened by highlighting European values and the advantages, of what it means to live in Europe. Through interactive activities, such as group discussions and working in group settings, participants are provided with the opportunity to reflect upon the input of the mini-presentations and thus, they obtain a more informed opinion on the EU.

Participants shall learn about the history, development and the functionings of the EU. The aim is to raise awarness of EU citizenship and to regard the EU as peace-keeping project with democratic values at its core.
