The workshop addresses students at the Master degree in the fields of social work or antropolgy. It equips participants with a clearer view on principles and resources needed in the volunteer management in the social-economic context of a society.

This is a workshop through which participants get informed on human resources management, with focus on volunteers management.

procedure / program

The workshop is split in 2 phases: presenting the agenda and the Wake UP project, and plenary discussion and group exercices on the topic.

content description:

The workshop provides a series of specific information, such as: actors in the volunteering sector, existing resources and principles applied in the volunteer management work, considering the social and economic context of the society. The workshop provides participants a macro view and understanding upon volunteering sector.

schedule/activities:

1st part of the workshop is a plennary discussion on information about volunteering in a specific country (actors involved, existing resources, principles). Here participants are asked to share what is their knowledge about these topics and the facilitator presents the actual situation and shares personal experience. Key points for discussion: legal framework, traditional events in the field of volunteering, funding/ support mechanism, media coverage, informational resources, codes of conduct for actors involving volunteers, standardized volunteer management process, principles of good practice in working with volunteers, instruments for monitoring and evaluation of volunteer activity, diversity - reprocity - recognition - empowerment in volunteering. Once the facilitator and participants go together through all these aspects, a small 5-10 minutes break can be included. Then, the 2nd part of the workshop continues with an exercise in 2 groups (can be used the breakout room feature of an online meeting tool): each group has to figure out the right order of the 9 steps used in the management of volunteers and to brainstorm on connection between social economy and volunteer management. Once they are finished, 20 minutes later, they come back in the plennary room to present their results.

closing activities:

Based on the discussion, the facilitator draws general conclusions while inviting participants to contribute, with special focus on volunteer management and human resources management - advantages and challenges.

At the end, ask participants to share one word symbolizing how they feel at the end of the workshop.
