This is a workshop for people with a low educational background, children or youth with vulnerable background. The aim is to raise their awareness on how European Union acts for themselves too and how relevant is EU for today Europeans.

idea:

Through this workshop we want to engage people in a fun game and discussion about how European Union is acting for the sake of the inhabitants. By addressing participants with a vulnerable background, we want to tackle the basics of EU in a way that is relevant for everyone, no matter their background.

vision:

We act to transmit what European Union does for its citizens in a manner that is relevant for vulnerable youth.

additional instructions:

Stay open, tolerant, keep it short and simple, ask questions, encourage answers and appreciate involvment and efforts!

additional instructions

Make sure that as a facilitator you are using an easy to be understood language and encourage an inclusive and non-judgemental atmosphere within the participants group.

procedure / program

The workshop is split in 3 faces: 1) Introduction and getting to know each other 2) Main activity 3) Evaluation

risks :

For some participants, because it is online, it could take longer to connect to the e-meeting or they could have technical issues. Allocate in advance time for such needs, because it is important that everyone can join. Do not insist if people want to stay with their microphone and camera off, because we cannot know the place where they are, the atmopshere of the surroundings etc. Instead, encourage them to use the chat box to answer questions, share ideas and thoughts, and ask questions. It can be useful the involvement of a co-facilitator with a techincal role, who could help the ones having technical issues.

:

additional important organizational tasks:

This workshop is designed to take place online. It is necessary to use a tool of online meetings.

content description:

schedule/activities:

Name game: each person will say their name and make their favourite sports move. Matching game (the main activity): Participants are told to take a white sheet of paper and a pen. They will have to fold the paper 2 times and form 4 squares. On each square, participants will answer 4 different questions related to European citizenship, while looking at pictures of different European cultures, and at the map of European countries. The questions are: new names of countries, new things about countries, new things about European Union, what offers European Union to the place where I live?. After looking at each photo, participants are invited to describe what they see in the photo and make a guess which is the country and where it is located on the map. At the same time, individually and at their own pace, on their sheet of paper participants will write answers to the 4 items. The game ends when participants identify all countries and put them on the map. In the end, it takes place a discussion about Europe and European Union, with focus on what beenfits brings European Union for participants own realities (nothing abstract or far from their own understanding).

closing activities:

Each participant is invited to share what findings they noted down on their sheets.

Each participant shares a word which describes how they feel at the end of the activity.

Invite participants to ask people who have travelled abroad, what it felt like, what practicalities were necessary, how is it like in another country etc.
